Let’s lead our Valley’s children to brighter futures. During my years of volunteering and fundraising, I have extensively researched our district’s results in comparison to other schools. And I have observed school board meetings for six years. I know we can do better for our kids. I believe that the #1 responsibility of a school board is ensuring that our K-12 education programs prepare all students for college and/or a career. As a school board member, I will work from day one to:
Raise Expectations and Focus on Student Success
-
Enhance the rigor and timing of curriculum so all students prepare for college as an option
-
Communicate high expectations and encourage every student to achieve
-
Introduce students to pathways to college during middle school
-
Implement strong intervention programs for students who struggle
-
Support teachers with relevant professional development; Enhance teaching skills for diverse learning styles
-
Track, report, and reduce the dropout rate
-
Track, report, and improve the rates of college acceptance, attendance, and graduation
-
Celebrate when all students graduate prepared for college and/or career training
Improve planning, decision making, and accountability
-
Develop a long term strategic plan focused on student success
-
Set goals and regularly measure progress toward student success
-
Establish education priorities and utilize them in decision making and budgeting
-
Utilize solid facts and reasonable assumptions in determining new building/remodeling needs
-
Oppose the reduction from 3 middle schools 2 in our growing district
-
Minimize busing and boundary changes; Support community based schools
-
Maximize the use of state matching and impact fee funds, before raising taxes
-
Significantly enhance the bond development process to improve voter response (see “Some FAQ” link above)
Develop open and transparent relationships with the community
-
Encourage open discussions and consider diverse opinions when making decisions
-
Include cities and builders in impact fee development; Resolve differences and achieve consensus
-
Enhance student and teacher safety and respect for diversity
-
Utilize all parties: administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community members on developing and evaluating district values, goals and strategies
-
Improve access to and reporting of data, especially that related to student success
-
Utilize independent citizen committees for budgeting, demographic projection, and bond decisions
