Goals

Let’s lead our Valley’s children to brighter futures.  During my years of volunteering and fundraising,  I have extensively researched our district’s results in comparison to other schools.  And I have observed school board meetings for six years.  I know we can do better for our kids.  I believe that the #1 responsibility of a school board is ensuring that our K-12 education programs prepare all students for college and/or a career.  As a school board member, I will work from day one to:

Raise Expectations and Focus on Student Success

  • Enhance the rigor and timing of curriculum so all students prepare for college as an option
  • Communicate high expectations and encourage every student to achieve
  • Introduce students to pathways to college during middle school
  • Implement strong intervention programs for students who struggle
  • Support teachers with relevant professional development; Enhance teaching skills for diverse learning styles
  • Track, report, and reduce the dropout rate
  • Track, report, and improve the rates of college acceptance, attendance, and graduation
  • Celebrate when all students graduate prepared for college and/or career training

Improve planning, decision making, and accountability

  • Develop a long term strategic plan focused on student success
  • Set goals and regularly measure progress toward student success
  • Establish education priorities and utilize them in decision making and budgeting
  • Utilize solid facts and reasonable assumptions in determining new building/remodeling needs
  • Oppose the reduction from 3 middle schools 2 in our growing district
  • Minimize busing and boundary changes; Support community based schools
  • Maximize the use of state matching and impact fee funds, before raising taxes
  • Significantly enhance the bond development process to improve voter response (see “Some FAQ” link above)

Develop open and transparent relationships with the community

  • Encourage open discussions and consider diverse opinions when making decisions
  • Include cities and builders in impact fee development;  Resolve differences and achieve consensus
  • Enhance student and teacher safety and respect for diversity
  • Utilize all parties: administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community members on developing and evaluating district values, goals and strategies
  • Improve access to and reporting of data, especially that related to student success
  • Utilize independent citizen committees for budgeting, demographic projection, and bond decisions
