Here are the SnoValley Star’s endorsements… School Board No. 3: Carolyn Simpson … As president of the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation, she displayed leadership and creative thinking … she will ask tough questions, which will generate better policy. Hi Carolyn,
Amazing website, full of information and energy. You have set some very ambitious goals. With that vision many things can be accomplished. I believe we can do a great job preparing our kids for college and careers. It really starts at an early age and progresses as the kids grow and mature. The hospital district is making a significant investment of time and resources to make sure our students have a choice when it comes to a healthcare career. This can only be accomplished with close collaboration with the school district. I think we have many opportunities to expand this relationship. Best of luck and certainly add me to the list of your supporters.

Thank you.
I endorse you! Thank you for all that you do.

This comment is from Michele Millen:

Add my endorsement to your list! I am happy to have such a smart, dedicated person willing to work hard to better the entire community!!!
Thank you for throwing your hat in the ring Carolyn. We have needed someone like you on our School Board for as long as I’ve been here (almost 10 years). Your background and education will Balance things out. Also, your knowledge of Snoqualmie will bring a whole new light to the board.
I don’t know anyone willing to work so hard on giving our kids a better education and the drive to go to College than you. Thank you for your Energy, Time, and Perseverance. You are a class act and I appreciate you.
After spending a great deal of time becoming educated and learning more about schools and the school district as a whole, I am convinced that a strong district will bring about positive changes for the community as a whole and, most importantly, the kids. Carolyn is one of the most passionate and dedicated educational advocates I have ever met. She has straight forward goals–all of which point toward improving the educational environment for our kids and improving the success of the district. She has good ideas about future contruction, and is a fierce advocate of transparency and communication. She will work for the entire district. Her kids are grown and in college. She does not have a personal stake at any particular school or area. She is a holistic person and desires to see every child, from K to 12, reach their full potential.
I appreciate your discussing high school graduation rates and the number of children from our district who attend and succeed in college.(not enough)
I think we need new board members who can help the district improve and really motivate voters to be education voters.
Dedicated and passionate about our students success! Carolyn gets my vote!
Our district is making some definite headway and it seems to me that it is brought about by increased communication. Thank you again Carolyn for being brave enough to speak out, question, and create conflict.
Twin Falls Middle School has finally published math pathways but there is still one element that Carolyn Simpson has talked about that has not been addressed. In order for our middle schools to offer pre-algebra in middle school our elementary students need to be “pre-algebra ready” as spelled out by the National Math Advisory Panel. What is shocking is that the research for NCLB was done a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
George Bush asked the National Math Advisory Panel http://www2.ed.gov/about/bdscomm/list/mathpanel/report/nsat.pdf (pages 9 and 10) to research and present recommendations such that no child would slip through the cracks and more students would graduate from high school prepared for a global future, thus enacting the NCLB. Subcommittees then took the advisory panel’s research and presented specific recommendations for K-12 education. The thousands of pages can be summarized in two brief statements.
1) Students need to have access to pre-algebra in 6th grade.
2) Elementary age students need to be fluent in basic facts.
These recommendations were presented in response to the NCLB years and years ago and seemingly forgotten by our school district until recent dialogue awakened the sleeping giant. Ruth Mowen has published math paths for our TFMS students but “it takes a village:” Our elementary age students need to be “pre-algebra-ready” as well.
Keep up the great work, Carolyn. It takes conflict to bring about change. And change is long, long overdue.
Regards,
Cindy McVay
