The Candidate Forum highlighted key differences between challengers and incumbents. My responses are at: PTSA questionnaire responses . My key differences? I will set high expectations for student learning through priorities, accountability, and interventions not just “sustain” learning. The dropout and late graduations rates are too high. I am focused on finding why more than 1 out of 5 (20%) of SVSD students (OSPI) either drop out or graduate late. The incumbents dispute the number from the state; I don’t. I will work towards consensus with the city to collect impact fees. I oppose continued efforts to annex SMS and reduce our middle schools from 3 to 2 until we understand why enrollment is not growing like expected. Capacity needs do “not remain the same” as the incumbents are saying. I continue to encourage systemic improvements in math education so that more students take middle school Algebra.
